Edinburgh International Festival reveals 2017 programme

Edinburgh International Festival has announced its 2017 programme full of theatre, opera, dance, contemporary and classical music, outdoor events, talks and more.

Beginning with opening event 'Bloom', a free outdoor public art event using lighting, sound and 3D-mapped projections, the festival will also feature a 70th anniversary collaboration between British Council and Edinburgh International Festival called Spirit of '47. This celebration will feature jointly-curated talks, performances and screenings o the idea of global citizenship and international collaboration.

There's an extensive international programme, and here are just a few of the highlights:

PJ Harvey playing The Hope Six Demolition Project and other songs

Anoushka Shankar

Die Walküre by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra

The Magnetic Fields playing 50 Song Memoir in two parts

The Divide Part One and Two by Alan Ayckbourn, co-production with the Old Vic
