New Adventures' award-winning tour of Asia

In summer 2016, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures toured Sleeping Beauty to Seoul, Singapore, Beijing, Tokyo and Shanghai, reaching an audience of more than 70,000.

The Culture Diary levered resources and expertise, as well as brokering relationships across government, which helped open access to funding and recourses to support the Asian tour.

The GREAT campaign, through the Culture Diary, also funded a pre and post show reception with 50 invited guests from across China including arts sector dignitaries, venues, and producers. The event significantly helped to raise the profile of the company.

New Adventures received The Stage International Award for their summer 2016 Asian tour on 27 January 2017.

Akram Khan in France

In December 2016, The Culture Diary kick started a programme of cultural diplomacy, relationship building and export in Paris, France, working with some of our members to create a series of small cultivation events. We were delighted to support Akram Khan's Until the Lions which took place from 5–17 December 2016 at la Vilette, Paris.

The performance was a powerful adaptation of Until the Lions: Echos from the Mahabharata, by poet Karthika Nair, mixing kathak and contemporary dance, leaving the audience moved and wowed.

We were delighted that Mme Susan le Jeune d'Allegeershecque, interim Ambassador for Britain – alongside invited guests – got to meet with choreographer and dancer Akram Khan and support the best of Britain's creative industries working internationally.

We are looking forward to continuing to support international working across France and other European, American and Asian countries, so do make sure your international tours are uploaded onto the Culture Diary website, and do not hesitate to contact us with provisional information on upcoming international work, or ideas for collaboration.
