Curated by the Barbican Young Programmers, this year’s Focus Film Festival offers snapshots of youth across the world over the last three decades. The subtitle ‘Chronic Youth’ captures the trials and tribulations of antagonistic, apathetic and activist adolescents in the films selected.
From Mexican road trip movie Güeros and adrenaline fueled documentary Speed Sisters, to 1980s punk anthem Rude Boy and American cult classic Drop Dead Gorgeous, each film offers contrasting perspectives of ever-changing youth culture, while celebrating the common core of self-exploration and growing pains when coming of age.
Featuring a live music performance by Speed Sisters soundtrack contributor Rasha Shaheen, a Q&A with Rude Boy writer and star Ray Gange, as well as a glamorous photobooth and self-styled beauty pageant á la Drop Dead Gorgeous, 'Chronic Youth' is sure to be a weekend to remember.
