Plymouth Mayflower Museum, Plymouth, England, United Kingdom
From 28 November – 1 December, Plymouth’s spectacular, free and family friendly Illuminate light festival returns for its third and most ambitious year to date. Large-scale and interactive artworks will light up Plymouth’s Royal William Yard (and its Grade I listed buildings), Barbican and Mount Edgcumbe.
Illuminate 2019 commences Mayflower 400, a unique year-long programme of events taking place in 12 partner destinations in the UK and internationally to commemorate 400 years since the Mayflower set sail from Plymouth for the ‘new world’ of America.
Programmed by Real Ideas Organisations (RIO), Illuminate 2019 brings together 30 new light art commissions from local, national and international artists. Each work responds to values of Mayflower 400: Freedom, Humanity, Imagination and Future.
Artworks include Tree of Memory by Spanish artist Xavi Bové, Her Voices by local artist Amanda Bluglass and The Media Workshop and Threshold by emerging artist Eliza Newman, in collaboration with Fen.
