Madame George by Keir McAllister

3 Chambers St, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom

Wednesday, July 31, 2019 - 13:00 to Monday, August 26, 2019 - 13:00

Following last year’s acclaimed debut of Keir McAllister’s The Bench, nominated for a Scottish Arts Club Award, the playwright is back with his new show Madame George, a dark comedy starring Scottish celebrated comedians Jojo Sutherland, Jay Lafferty and Paul Sneddon (Vladimir McTavish). Madame George is a play about a psychic in a slump - a satirical examination of isolation and delusion with a subtle nod to the social and political stramash of ideas about identity in contemporary Scotland.

Madame George runs from Wed 31 July to Monday 26 August at Gilded Balloon Patter Hoose.

It’s been 2 years, 7 months and 11 days since her mother died and she’s still not bothered to get in touch. Then there’s the neighbour, the annoyingly intrusive Mr Doyle, who also just happens to be her last remaining client. Things are most definitely in a rut but when a message finally comes through... but will Madame George want to hear it? A comedy about how far we will go for what we choose to believe in.

The cast features McAllister’s long-term collaborator, actor and comedian Paul Sneddon (Vladimir McTavish) who also co- starred in The Bench, top radio/TV comic Jay Lafferty and actor and comedian Jojo Sutherland in the title role. The production will also feature a live score, composed and performed by the celebrated Scottish multi-instrumentalist DaveBeMac. The show is directed by Scottish theatre director, performer, dramaturg and award-winning playwright Jen McGregor. The resulting collaboration is a dynamic, relevant, necessary and poignant echo of the current times we are living in. Madame George is co- produced by Watch This Space Productions and Gilded Balloon.
