From the splendour of the royal court to the relationship between Church and State, the treasures and material culture of the ruling elite and the middle classes opens a window onto the world of the European Middle Ages. Spanning the period AD 400 to 1500, this exhibition explores a time when many of the states and cultures of modern Europe were formed – a legacy that lives with us today. Visitors will learn about key events, famous figures, life at court, everyday activities, war and conquest.
