Newham Word Festival is working with local artists and organisations to programme a fortnight of exciting literary and arts events. The festival will take place in every library across Newham, as well as community centres, arts and cultural venues, shops, cafes and in the street. The programme includes spoken word, author and illustrator events, storytelling, debates, performances and visual arts. 

Festival Highlights Include:

Juno Dawson and Amy Lamé in conversation, Thursday 9 November Multi-award-winning author and activist Juno Dawson will join writer, broadcaster, activist, perfomer and the Mayor of London's first Night Czar Amy Lamé for a discussion of their latest publications The Gender Games (Dawson) and From Prejudice to Pride: A History of LGBTQ+ Movement (Lamé).

Oliver Jeffers, Saturday 11 November Our world can be a bewildering place, especially if you've only just got here. Explore what makes our planet and how we live on it with the thought-provoking new book Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth from the multi-award-winning picture book creator Oliver Jeffers. 

Andy Hamilton, Thursday 16 November One of Britain's best-loved comedy performers and writers, Andy Hamilton will read from his new book The Star Witness, a story of one man's descent into disgrace and his journey to rejoin the human race. This pin-sharp satire will keep you laughing, cringing and guessing until the very end.
