The Whitworth, The University of Manchester, Manchester, North West, United Kingdom

Friday, July 5, 2019 - 10:00 to Sunday, July 21, 2019 - 17:00

Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama will present Parliament of Ghosts, his first major exhibition in the UK as part of Manchester International Festival 2019, opening at the Whitworth on Friday 5 July 2019.

The centrepiece of the exhibition will be a monumental Parliament built using old school cabinets, worn train seats, and other scrapped objects recovered from abandoned industrial sites, including the railway station in Sekondi, the original headquarters of Ghana’s railway. Built by the British, the Gold Coast railway transported the country’s major exports, including cocoa, manganese, and timber.
