Southwater Library, Telford, Nationwide, United Kingdom
On the Saturday before Halloween 2016, over the course of nine hours, teenagers in Worcester, Telford and Cannock took control of their local libraries, and performed live to a worldwide audience online. The action unfolded over three consecutive libraries as the teenagers sneaked in, hid stories, discussed strange ideas and invited online participation.
Blast Theory, an internationally renowned group of artists, and acclaimed author Tony White, worked with the teenagers, reimagining libraries, storytelling and their place in the world.
On Tuesday 21 February 2017, artists, library professionals and education practitioners are invited to find out more about what happened in this extraordinary project from the artists, librarians and young people who took part. Delegates will hear Tony White read from a new novella, entitled Zombies Ate My Library, which draws on ideas, conversations and off-cuts that had emerged during the development of the project, and explore how learning outcomes from the project can support future collaborations between libraries and artists.
