Scream meets Clueless in this hilarious spoof horror musical.
After the runaway success of their debut show 2 Become 1, Swipe Right Theatre bring their brand new, deliciously dark musical Scream Phone to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019. It’s 1989, the girls are having a sleepover and you’re like, totally invited! Pillow fights in their underwear, singing into hair brushes, and gossiping about their crushes, what could possibly go wrong? As long as they don’t answer the oversized pink phone... dun dun DUUUN! Based on the retro classic game Dream Phone, Scream Phone will take audiences on a killer journey back to the 80’s with an infectious and original soundtrack* based on female hits of the era. Scream Phone runs from Wed 31 July - Mon 26 August at the Gilded Balloon after a 2-night preview at the Brighton Fringe on Thu 30 & Fri 31 May.
*The songs are totally all original, so you won't (you might) recognise some of your favourite 80s hits.
Scream Phone is written by 2 Become 1 creators and company co-founders, Natasha Granger and Kerrie Thomason and it is directed by the acclaimed Tom Parry, one third of sketch group Pappy’s (BBC3’s Badults, Pappy’s Flatshare Slamdown Podcast).
‘We love to take inspiration from our lives growing up in the 80’s and 90s for our work! In the case of ‘Scream Phone’ we took inspiration from our favourite game as pre-teens; Dream Phone. Scream Phone is set in the Malibu Barbie, pink tinted world of the game with a hilarious horror twist.’ Natasha Granger
‘We want to blend musical theatre, and comedy, with a large dollop of nostalgia, to view the stereotypes of women in pop culture of the time’ Kerrie Thomason
Swipe Right Theatre debut show 2 Become 1 had three sell-out runs and became a cult hit at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in their three consecutive years at the festival. They had follow up runs in Brighton (Komedia) and London (Kings Head Theatre & VAULT Festival). 2 Become 1 received fantastic reviews from audiences and the press, and won the Derek Award for Best Comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe 2015.
‘This is a show that won’t just tickle and tantalise, it’s an absolute thrilling treat and I’m totally blown away by their brilliance.’ ★★★★★ North West End
Only a cold-hearted fun-phobe could fail to be won over by this horror-pastiche romp – and only a liar would say it doesn’t leave them yearning for those innocent days of the Dream Phone!
