Cameron Mackintosh gives £1m to one of the UK's leading drama schools

Cameron Mackintosh has donated £1m to a fundraising campaign to complete the new 200-set theatre home of Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in Peckham.

The new theeatre will open in autumn 2019 and will be named the Cameron Mackintosh Theatre.

Mountview's decision to move from its North London location is seen as a way to increase intake of theatre enthusiasts from more diverse backgrounds. Cameron Mackintosh's donation frees up the school to fundraise for more means-tested bursaries and hardship funds. Half of the school's students already receive means-tested bursaries.

Mountview alumni includes actors Eddie Marsan, Amnada Holden and Douglas Henshall, playwrights Ayub Khan-Din and Giles Terera, the latter of whom starred in musical phenomenon, Hamilton.
