Company Wayne McGregor celebrates 25 years in 2018. The globally-acclaimed choreorgapher, creator and director started his own company, Random Dance, in 1993. It has gone on to create 30 works that have toured to around 50 countries.
Autobiography continues its first worldwide tour, including opening Joyce Theatre's spring 2018 in New York City for its North American premiere. A music-focused and pared-down version of Wayne McGregor's latest full-length work entitled Autobiography Edits will be booking throughout the year after its premiere at Unsound Toronto in October 2017.
2018 will also see the return of Entity, featuring the soundscapes of electronic musician and producer Jon Hopkins and award-winning composer Joby Talbot (also of indie band The Divine Comedy).
Atomos continues to tour in the UK with stops in Canada and Boston, Massachusettes in the USA, and Tree of Codes, a Manchester International Festival production and collaboration with Jamie xx and Olafur Eliasson, headlines Sydney Festival on 6–10 January.
Other 2018 highlights include:
- World premiere of a new Wayne McGregor piece as resident choreographer for the Royal Ballet as the company celebrates on the centenary of Leonard Bernstein's birth on 15 March.
- Another world premiere, AFTERITE, sees a new piece set to Stravinsky's seminal and groundbreaking The Rite of Spring performed by American Ballet Theatre at the Metropolitan Opera House on 21–26 May.
- Wayne McGregor has been announced as The Grange Festival's first Director of Dance and will curate an evening of contemporary work and iconic ballet pieces.
- The LA Philharmonic's centenary will include a triple bill of music and dance by Thomas Adès and Wayne McGregor including a world premiere commissioned by the LA Phil and the Royal Ballet alongside existing works performed by both the Royal Ballet and Company Wayne McGregor.
The organisation performed FAR on a three-week tour of India as part of the British Council's UK/India 2017 Year of Culture programme in December 2017, aswell as highlighting Wayne McGregor's work on the Mix the Body app which was also launched within the programme.
