London Sinfonietta has big plans for new digital music channel

London Sinfonietta will launch a new digital music channel, featuring streamed concerts, conversations with composers, podcasts and more in January 2020.

The channel is set to launch with two live events at Southbank Festival's Spiritland, Royal Festival Hall:

  • Sunday 12 January 2020 – a short performance and artist discussion with the creative team behind chamber opera CAVE by Tansy Davies and Nick Drake, with original premiere performers tenor Mark Padmore and mezzo soprano Elaine Mitchener. An exclusive online stream of the opera will be available online for the remainder of the London Sinfonietta’s 2019/20 season.
  • Monday 17 February 2020 – conversations with musicians and composers Matthew Herbert and Anna Meredith, hosted by cellist Zoe Martlew. The evening will be broadcast as live editions of 'The Music That Made Me', a new channel-only podcast.

Andrew Burke, Chief Executive and Artistic Director, London Sinfonietta, says: "The London Sinfonietta’s new digital channel is a way of presenting the work of the ensemble in other ways than live concerts for those who can’t make those events. "It’s exciting to create video and audio series’ about the new music we perform which we hope will reach and interest a wide audience. We also plan to explore the idea of work made for the channel that can’t be performed live and explores the possibilities of digital technology."
