Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella performed by the award-winning New Adventures company is a thrilling and evocative love story, set in London during the Second World War that returned in 2017 with its major UK tour and is now touring internationally until March 2019. During Christmas 2017, the show was filmed and aired by the BBC before it hit cinemas worldwide in February 2018.
Opening for 8 weeks at Sadler’s Wells in London, Cinderella took her carriage and went on tour around the UK visiting: Plymouth, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Nottingham, Salford, Bristol, Southampton, Cardiff, Liverpool, Newcastle, Wimbledon, Bradford, Sheffield, Canterbury, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Woking. That’s 19 venues in 27 weeks!
The cast and crew then jetted off to China over the summer to perform at the Tianqiao Performing Arts Centre, Beijing where the dancers got very steamy in their costumes! The Cinderella Company were lucky enough to do a bit of sightseeing whilst they were there and enjoyed visiting the Temple of Heaven and The Summer Palace. Not only are the company performing overseas but New Adventures also offers engagement activity to all ages and abilities alongside the show. Two of their dance practitioners led workshops to participants in Beijing and choreographed a curtain raiser piece which was performed to the audience before the Friday evening show.
They then opened in Shanghai with their 200th performance on 16 August 2018, pirouetting at SAIC · Shanghai Culture Square for two weeks and engaging local dancers in another curtain raiser performance. It was also the first time that the production was seen in this city. This war-time romance has now been seen by over 250,000 people on this tour, but it isn’t over yet – they’ve still got Tokyo and the USA – North Carolina, Washington DC and Los Angeles – to come!
