The Centre for Economics and Business Research has prepared a study for Arts Council England on the arts and culture industry in the North of England.
In 2016, the arts and culture industry in the North of England:
- had £2.7 billion in turnover with performing arts, artistic creation and support activity for performing arts as the largest three productive activities.
- employed 16,700 people with performing arts and artistic creation as the largest sub-sector employers
- saw tourists include arts and culture in their trips to the North of England with an estimated £571 million spend on trips which involved museums, £323 million on trips involving live music, and £257 million on trips involving art galleries.
The report also covers spillover impacts of the industries, productivity, gross value added and the impact of funding cuts on arts and culture.
