Shakespeare's Globe has handpicked six productions from the last ten years to show for free from 6 April 2020. They will also release the entire 2012 international run of Globe to Globe, which saw artists from around the world work Shakespeare in their own languages, and the 37 films from The Complete Walk created for Shakespeare 400. Finally, 'Love in Isolation' will see luminaries of the cultural world "sharing Shakespeare's words from their place of sanctuary".
The films to be made available via Globe Player on 6 April are:
- Romeo & Juliet 2009
- A Midsummer Night's Dream 2013
- Hamlet 2018
- The Two Noble KInsman 2018
- The Winter's Tale 2018
- The Merry Wives of Windsor 2019
The 2012 Globe to Globe saw 37 plays performed in 37 languages in six weeks at Shakespeare's Globe as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. These will also be available via the Globe Player, allowing an international audience to view some of these plays for the first time in their first language.
The Complete Walk took place as part of Shakespeare's 400th birthday celebrations, with films screened along a walk by the River Thames. These films were set in locations Shakespeare used in his plays -such as Verona, Athens and Denmark - with actors like Simon Russell Beale, Gemma Arterton and Meera Syal performing lead roles. These will all be available via Globe Player.
