Shakespeare's Globe to tour trio of plays in UK and Europe during spring 2018

Shakespeare's Globe has announced a UK and international repertory tour of three plays 25 May–29 July 2018, a first for the company.

The company will take The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night on the road with the same cast playing parts in all three plays. On each night, the audience will have the choice of which play they will see.

The tour begins at Chilam Castle with a performance of each of the plays before two Sunday performances where the audience will vote their preference.

Current dates will see the tour visit Spain, Germany, Austria and Sweden. UK dates include Chilham (Kent), Bangor (Wales), Richmond (North Yorkshire), Brighton, Oxford, Lincoln and Alnwick.

The tour arose from the question: "how did a company tour in Shakespeare’s day?" Following in the tradition of Shakespeare's day, eight actors will perform all three plays at the Globe before setting out on tour and handing the choice to the most powerful members of the house: the audience.

Brendan O’Hea, director, actor, and passionate education practitioner, has previously performed in a number of productions at Shakespeare’s Globe including Cymbeline (2015), Measure for Measure(2015), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2014), and Henry V (2012).

He said: "The combination of Shakespeare, the Globe and touring ticks every box for me. The chance to share those glorious words and my experience of playing that beautiful theatre with audiences throughout the world excites me beyond measure. And I’m relishing the opportunity to direct three of Shakespeare’s most popular plays in a unique and unpredictable presentation."
