The Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion, Baroness Rona Fairhead CBE, joined Sir John Sorrell CBE and Professor Eric Yim at the London Design Biennale to launch the UK's partnership with Hong Kong's Business of Design Week 2019 (BODW). Baroness Fairhead spoke at the event on 18 September during the London Design Biennale 2018 at Somerset House.
BODW 2019 is Hong Kong's leading annual event on design, innovation and brands, attracting 80 international speakers, 200 media attendees and over 120,000 participants. The Department for International Trade (DIT) and GREAT Britain Campaign will showcase the best of British design at BODW in December 2019. They are looking for exceptional UK designers, design companies and academic institutions for the showcase.
Following the announcement, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, Jeremy Wright signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cultural Cooperation with Matthew Cheung, Chief Secretary of Administration (Hong Kong) on 26 September 2018. The MoU states that the UK and Hong Kong will promote the development of multually beneficial relations in the fields of culture and the creative industries. It covers cultural exchanges, collaboration, and supporting participation in key cultural events and programmes.
