Stormzy brings grime to long-deserved headline status at Glastonbury Festival 2019

Sixteen years after the breakthrough grime album Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal was released, Stormzy headlined Glastonbury Festival 2019 bringing this resolutely British sound to a global audience.

Stormzy represents the first solo black British rapper to headline Glastonbury, and the first grime artist to grace the Pyramid Stage. He performed material from his 2017 debut album Gang Signs & Prayer as well as performing fellow rapper Dave's 2018 number one single, 'Funky Friday'. The performance also showcased black ballet dancers, and used British Sign Language interpreters for deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members.

Alongside his Glastonbury triumph, Stormzy is set to publish the first independent book through his Merky Books imprint on Penguin, and has set up a Cambridge University scholarship fund for BAME students.
